Companion Planting and Crop Swap

I love garden events. They are a great opportunity to meet new people and share garden knowledge, so I jumped at the chance to head along to the International Community Herb Garden in Whakatāne and share what I know about companion planting. A herb garden is the perfect setting for a companion planting conversation, with so many of the best companions being herbs or other medicinal plants. The weather was also fabulous which was appreciated!

We had such a great time discussing companion planting that we decided to come back again for a crop swap, also hosted at the Herb Garden. It was the first time the event had been held at that time and location so it was great to see about a dozen people come along with various plants and edible bits and pieces. It is still early in the season for crops but based on the number of seedlings that went to new homes, we can look forward to some tables full of tasty fresh produce in a few months time.

The crop swap is going to be a regular event, every second Friday at the Herb Garden with a wet weather venue to be confirmed so keep an eye out on Facebook for the event posts, collect up your extra seedlings or garden produce and come along!
